Refractions at Upward Gallery
December and January are basically a blur for me every year, which is why I am so late announcing this really exciting December win.
A call for refractive art
Back in early December, I still had a tiny bit of bandwidth to submit work to the juried exhibition, Refractions, hosted by Upward Gallery. I submitted a small wall art piece, Drip Dry (shown below). I made this small work on wood with acrylic paint and copper. I handmade each piece of copper by melting a bead at the end, hammering it flat, and polishing it. The result is a cascading drip of copper elements that bounce the light and the paint colors. (Currently Available)
The dream of being 1st
For all my years as an artist, I've never really been sure how art can be subject to a competitive jury. I guess it feels awkward, sort of like a beauty contest, but here I am, a first place winner. Maybe it just seems strange until you win. So in that respect, YEAH! I WON. It might be a strange thing, but it hasn't held me back from celebrating!
Next up
While this news might be a bit late, there is more coming up with Upward and this win. I recently completed an interview, and it will be part of Upward Gallery's quarterly print magazine in the fall. Until then, you can check out some of the talented artists on their site, UpwardGallery.com
