I have found that sitting quietly with my pens, paper, and an open mind for inspiration, I can allow ideas to flow through my hands quickly and naturally. Paper is quick and, in many ways, surprising. When I sit down with my markers and watercolors, I am always excited about the colors and forms that appear on the page.

Turning Sketches into Metal Forms
Sketching keeps my mind calm and the ideas flowing so that when I get into the studio, I can rummage through and rediscover the forms that I had put on paper when I was in a relaxed state. Then I can emulate them in other materials.
