PROCESS JOURNAL

Most of my work takes months to create. I usually start in the summer months by prepping my canvas boards with their large detailed elements and getting the coated and textured. This way, as it gets colder outside, they can come inside where I can paint them and then start adding in all the detail work. 

Without further delay, here is the video of my progress so far on a work that feels like a fissure and the beauty and strangeness that can grow out of a break or crack. 

I have found that sitting quietly with my pens, paper, and an open mind for inspiration, I can allow ideas to flow through my hands quickly and naturally. Paper is quick and, in many ways, surprising. When I sit down with my markers and watercolors, I am always excited about the colors and forms that appear on the page.

I love working with repetition in a medium that I am sculpting or building in. There is nothing like doing the same thing over and over to really makes your hands and brain and body fully understand and appreciate a material.
